Gothic Queen at Lake Estes

Lake Estes
Photo of Lake Estes taken with iPhone 12
Being situated in Estes Park, we are privileged to be surrounded by an awe-inspiring display of natural splendor, including majestic mountains, lush forests, glistening lakes, and an array of fascinating wildlife. It is this breathtaking backdrop that made our decision to conduct the Gothic Queen photoshoot in Estes Park an absolute no-brainer.

For our location, we specifically chose the north side of the lake, a spot that exudes tranquility and captivates the senses. Our journey began by parking at Fisherman's Nook, a hidden gem of a parking area known primarily to those who seek to explore the enchanting wonders of the lake. Estes Lake holds great appeal among both locals and tourists, offering a myriad of activities for those who appreciate its natural allure.

Regrettably, our photoshoot took place at the less-than-ideal time of 2pm when the sun was shining brightly in all its glory. This presented a challenge for us since it deviated from our preferred style, which embraces the allure of diffused light or the captivating glow of the sun during the enchanting Golden Hour.

In our quest to capture the essence of darkness, spookiness, and a touch of eerie allure, we yearned for an atmosphere that stood in stark contrast to the cheerful radiance of a typical sunny day. Embracing the unconventional, we strategically positioned our subject within the protective canopy of the trees, allowing the interplay of light and shadow to accentuate their features and evoke a sense of mystery and intrigue. The dappled sunlight that filtered through the dense foliage added depth and texture, lending an ethereal quality to the imagery that perfectly aligned with our creative vision.

the edit

To compensate for the less-than-ideal lighting conditions during our Gothic Queen photoshoot, we embraced the power of digital editing and embarked on a journey of creativity and transformation. Armed with the artistic prowess of Photoshop, we ventured into the realm of compositing, seamlessly merging different elements to craft captivating visuals that surpass the limitations of the original photographs.

The "before" photo showcases the raw image as captured straight out of the camera, reflecting the challenging lighting situation we faced. However, this served merely as the starting point, the foundation upon which our skilled editor, Carly, dedicated hours of meticulous work to breathe life into the image. With a meticulous eye for detail and a wealth of editing techniques at her disposal, Carly transformed the initial photograph into a true masterpiece.

The final result, depicted in the "after" photo, transports viewers into a realm of ethereal beauty and haunting enchantment. Through the magic of editing, Carly wielded her digital brush, creating a snowy landscape that transcends the reality of Lake Estes. It is important to note that while these heavily edited images may not precisely mirror the exact ambiance of the actual location, they serve as a testament to the artistic vision and skillful craftsmanship involved in this creative process.
